Completed: project “Personal Portfolio Page”

I remember when I started to learn to make webpages at freeCodeCamp I was really afraid of starting this project. I delayed it for 4 or 5 months now, I think. I was also very sceptical of using Bootstrap, I found it very complicated. When just recently, I tried to do it.

Unfortunately, I failed. Hard. Then I tried again… And failed 5 more times. I couldn’t find the right approach to the problem. I tried several methods. Using no frameworks, then I tried MDL. Everytime, I would just stuck at one moment not knowing what to do. Finally, I put myself in relearning Bootstrap since the last time I haven’t really learned anything, I just jumed through as fast as possible.

After a week of learning and practissing on smaller projects, I was sure I was ready to try and make it. Throughout whole project, I didn’t find myself stuck in any problem longer than a half of hour. It was that easy! Though, my friend told me the first look wasn’t good, so I changed it completely. Almost.

Here is the first design which I really liked.

 And here’s the “corrected” one.

I personally like better the second one, because of it’s simplicity. But I like first one too cause of the detailed images and navigation buttons. What do you think?

Completed: Project “Antonymy”

After changing my approach to this problem several times, I’ve finally found the best and easiest one. So, here’s my decision:

  • Language: C#
  • IDE: Visual Studio
  • Database: OLEDB (Access)

You can read about progress here:

Here’s how it looks:

So, first thing that pops up is the sign in page where it requires you to login before you proceed. If you don’t have an “account”, you can register. You’ll need to insert your name, username, password and to confirm password. When you successfully register, you’ll be taken back to the login page. After you proceed, you can see the Antonym Finder. In the top-left corner you can see “Welcome, [the name you entered during the registration]” and in the top-right corner you can open a form through which you can add more antonyms. On the center you have a TextBox where you type your word and in the label below you’ll see it’s antonym. Pretty cool, huh? Finally, you can log out using link in the lower-right corner.

This was a very interesting project. It helped me learn C# from scratch (before this I only used C++) and I must say I love the language so far. It also introduced me to communication with databases and SQL.

If you want me to show you how I’ve made this or just see the source code, you can contact me. Thanks for reading!

P.S. I just recently found out Yin-Yang doesn’t represent contrast, so I apologize for the incorrect icon.

The journey into 3D Modeling

I was always wondering as a child how do video game developers make all those assets, meshes and program a fully functioning video game in less than a year. I was thinking: “I could never do such good work in such short period of time”. It was like a miracle to me, it was impossible. And then I found out there are hundreds of people working on them… That gave me a little hope that I could make video games myself once. So I downloaded Unity after some research on game engines. I opened it and I was like: “Now what…”. So I’ve put even more hours of research and learned enough about 3D Modeling so I could get started. I found that the best free 3D creation suite is Blender. I watched some videos on YouTube and read documentation which gave me enough knowledge to make this.

This made me so proud of myself that I just went through whole classroom the next day showing them what I’ve made. Some of them were impressed and some were like: “Cool, I don’t care”. Which really bothered me for a while. And then I just told myself that the only thing that really is important is that I’m satisfied with it and I held onto it.

My very first digital drawing

I have never really thought of making digital art, even though I owned a graphic tablet. The main reason keeping me from trying it is the fact that the tablet I owned wasn’t pressure sensitive. And I always thought I won’t be able to draw anything somewhat good. And I don’t own Photoshop, so I really didn’t have a program to work in and MS Paint doesn’t count. And then just one day I was watching Draw with Jazza when I got inspired by his speech and I actually found out that when he started, he also had just some random pad tablet like me (I would still rather by pad tablet than the one with screen, I just prefer them). So I just went to alternativeTo, found FireAlpaca and downloaded it. I just started drawing and undoing for, I would say, two hours and this is the final result.

I was really impressed when I saw the final result. I would still make some changes in the iris part with the light here and there. But overall, I’m extremely satisfied, taking in consideration that I don’t have any special drawing skills, I just enjoy it. I actually liked it so much that I made it my cover photo on Facebook.

From this project, I kind of learned what I already knew from proverbs, I just proved it to myself – The hardest part is to start. And it really is. By the time I actually started drawing this, I have found dozens of reasons why I can’t do it. And when I finally started, I realized it was more than possible – it was easy!
